PRESIDIO WALK: LOBOS VALLEY TO THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE OVERLOOK

Meeting Times: 9:35 AM from SF, departing shortly afterwards; 9:15 from Rockridge, bottom of escalator.

Description: This hike will take place the day before our famous Pool Party. Wanting to have a short, beautiful hike on the calendar, what better place than the SF Presidio? I discovered this uncommonly used trailhead from Mark K who visits it frequently. I've been back many times since that first time. It begins above Lobos Valley which has been restored to what appears to be its original state with a boardwalk and California native plants throughout. We then take a rather sandy trail down to and just above Baker Beach before continuing on the Coastal Trail all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge Overlook. I took the above photo from the overlook a couple of years ago. We'll then continue on some little used park trails back to the parking area.
Dogs on leash are welcome throughout the Presidio.
Bring / Wear: Please bring water, a light lunch or snacks, comfortable walking shoes that can tolerate a few sections of somewhat sandy trails. And layers.
Weather Policy: Check with hikeleader in the event of questionable weather.
Trailhead Meeting Place: We'll be meeting at the Point Lobos Overlook Parking near Wedemeyer and North 15th Ave. I believe the 28 Park Presidio bus takes you very near there. If this is incorrect, please let me know. The entrance to Lobos Valley parking is at the northern end of 14th Ave. Stay to the left - and through the 2 pylons - even if it appears to be a private road - it's not.
